Sonata Treatment For Transcervical Fibroid Ablation

What are uterine fibroids?

Fibroids are growths in or around the uterus that are benign (non-cancerous). Fibroids may produce uncomfortable symptoms such as painful periods and profuse menstrual bleeding. They can range in size from an apple seed to a grapefruit. If the fibroids are not treated, these symptoms could become more severe over time.

Women with fibroids may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

  • Heavy periods (heavy menstrual bleeding)
  • Pressure or swelling in the abdomen
  • Painful periods (dysmenorrhea)
  • Urinating more often than usual
  • Constipation
  • Infertility
  • Painful sex

Clinical research has shown that an incision-free treatment called the Sonata Treatment can lessen fibroid symptoms. Numerous different fibroid types, sizes, and uterine sites can be treated with this method. A single operation can be used to treat several fibroids.

Since the fibroids are removed from within the uterus, no incisions (and hence no scarring) are made, no tissue needs to be surgically removed, and the uterus is left intact. Depending on the quantity and size of fibroids treated, the Sonata treatment normally lasts less than an hour.

Women typically resume their normal activities in a few days. Within three months, most patients experience a reduction in excessive menstrual bleeding.

How Sonata Works

During the Sonata Treatment, a handpiece with a tiny, high-resolution ultrasound tip is used, enabling the physician to see the fibroids from inside the uterus and subsequently treat each one using a method known as an ablation.

Step 1

The Sonata treatment handpiece is inserted into the uterus through the vagina by Dr. Roz.

Step 2

The fibroid is located using ultrasound waves that are emitted from the tip.

Step 3

The radiofrequency energy from the Sonata Treatment handpiece gradually causes the fibroid to shrink and lessen symptoms.
