Discover the Good, Bad, and Ugly sides of Sun Exposure and learn how look forever Young.Do you constantly worry about the effects the sun can have on your skin? Are you getting more and more confused with the conflicting information you’re reading about the sun and which is the best anti-aging path?

It can become very confusing when some experts advise taking strong precautions against sun exposure while others say that direct sunlight is not that harmful because your body needs it to create vitamin D…

Today, you’ll learn about the risks of sun exposure and harmful UV rays, and also how to prevent sun damage so you can enjoy healthy, radiant skin and how to reverse sun damage!

I will share with you about an innovative anti-aging secret that can help you slow the aging process, eliminate signs of sun damage, and leave your skin looking refreshed and youthful!

But first…

The Ugly…
Honestly, the sun can cause your skin to age like there’s no tomorrow.

Skincancer.org estimates that 90% of premature skin aging is due to the sun!

It’s well-known that too much exposure to the sun, without protecting your skin, can lead to:
• Glaring wrinkles
• Not-so-cute freckles
• Dark sunspots
• Painful sunburns
• And increased risk of skin cancers

The Dangers of UV Rays
There are UVA and UVB rays. UVA’s cause tans, wrinkles, and other premature signs of aging. UVB’s cause sunburns and skin cancer. Both are harmful to your skin and your health!

Those who are exposed to ultraviolet (UV) rays regularly are, of course, at greater risk of developing skin cancer.

Although the sun is the primary source of UV rays, that doesn’t mean you need to hide from it completely! You need to enjoy your life, get outside, and be active, just simply take anti-aging precautions when you do.

The Bad…
Since you’re enjoying the summer, heading to the beach, and enjoying neighborhood barbeques, you already know from last summer how bad your sunburn was when you forgot to slather on the sunscreen before heading out.

In the journal, Annals of Internal Medicine, Australian researchers studied two groups of people: one group applied sunscreen daily and the other used it sporadically.

After studying the participant’s skin on their hands at the beginning of the study, at the end of the study, and then over four years later, the researchers found no visible signs of aging from UV rays on the group that used sunscreen daily. The group which sporadically used sunscreen were found with 24% more signs of aging on their skin.

5 Steps to Healthy Skin
Here are 5 ways you can limit UV exposure and keep your skin beautiful and youthful:
1. Enjoy the shade!
Especially during the hours between 10 am and 4 pm as this is when researchers have found UV rays to be strongest.

2. Wear proper clothing to protect your skin from the rays.
Long-sleeved shirts, pants or skirts are very protective for your skin. Dark colors have been found to offer the most protection over light colors, these may not be ideal in the summer heat so cchoose fabrics that are lightweight and comfortable. Some companies even state their clothing protects against UV rays, so check the tags when you buy them!

3. Slather on the sunscreen.
Sunscreen is a MUST for protecting your skin from harmful UV rays, but even with regular use, some UV rays can still seep through. So, consider sunscreen a vital part of your defense against the rays, along with the other options listed here.

The higher SPF (sun protection factor) number on your sunscreen, then the better protected you are from UVB rays and early aging. And if you’re swimming, reapply it every 2 hours.

4. Wear a big hat!
Or at least with a 2-3” brim all around will help to protect your ears, eyes, nose, forehead, scalp, and even neck.

5. Slip on sunglasses to protect your eyes and the delicate skin around them.
Without sunglasses, researchers have discovered that long hours in the sun, without protecting your eyes, can increase your risk of developing various eye diseases!

Make sure your sunglasses will protect you against UVA and UVB rays by checking the label or tags when you buy them. Also, choose sunglasses that are the wraparound or large-framed styles.
Okay, so that was the Ugly and Bad sides of the sun. Now, how about the Good side?

Let the Sun Shine In!
Sunlight offers natural vitamin D that can:
• Lower your risk of cancers
• Boost your quality of sleep
• Enhance your body’s own creation of vitamin D
• Makes you feel happier!
Letting your skin absorb the delicious vitamin D that the sun offers can improve your health and strengthen your immune system.

Prevent Damage Before It Begins!
Who needs sunscreen? Everyone!

The sun can be a large cause of aging, but if you take preventative measures against premature aging and protect yourself against the harmful rays, then your skin will love you for it.

Darrell S. Rigel, MD, who is the clinical professor of dermatology at New York University School of Medicine in New York City, states that even if you haven’t slopped on the sunscreen enough in the past, it’s never too late to begin to protect your skin.

The American Academy of Dermatology Inc. suggests applying sunscreen 15 minutes before you go outside. While this may lower your own production of vitamin D, you can always increase your intake of vitamin D through:
• Vitamin D supplements
• Salmon
• Mushrooms
• Fortified dairy products
• Fortified orange juice
• Egg yolks
• Fortified cereals
So, now that you’re clearer on the Good, Bad, and the Ugly sides of the sun, you can better protect yourself and your skin as you enjoy your favorite outdoor activities this summer!
