How it Works

A hysterectomy is the leading gynecology surgery for women in the United States. A hysterectomy involves the removal of the uterus and cervix. The fallopian tubes and ovaries may or may not be removed at the time of surgery. Every woman is different, and every clinical situation is different. We offer same-day, minimally invasive hysterectomies in Miamisburg, Ohio. Abdominal hysterectomies may require an overnight stay.

At Dr. Roz MD, we like to choose surgery as our last option. If your condition can be managed without surgery, we can create a specialized plan for you. One of the most common reasons for a hysterectomy is a complication from uterine fibroids. A treatment plan can be tailor-made based on your condition to determine if there is a conservative or alternative treatment to treat fibroids.

Hysterectomies Treat

  • Uterine fibroids
  • Abnormal uterine bleeding
  • Chronic pelvic pain
  • Precancerous lesions
  • Severe endometriosis
  • Uterine prolapse
  • Cervical or uterine cancer

The Treatment Overview

Laparoscopic hysterectomy is performed as an in-office, outpatient procedure under general anesthesia. The entire procedure takes 1 to 3 hours. During the procedure, a small tube with a telescope and a small camera is inserted through a small incision in your tummy. The camera allows the surgeon to visualize the internal organs. Meanwhile, the surgical instruments are inserted through another incision in your abdomen or vagina to remove parts of the reproductive system, such as the womb, cervix, and possibly the fallopian tubes and ovaries.

Recovery & Aftercare

We prefer a laparoscopic hysterectomy because it involves significantly less blood loss, pain, and a quick resumption of daily activities. Most women can return home the same day, especially after a vaginal or laparoscopic-assisted vaginal hysterectomy. You’re encouraged to start walking, and you can resume low-level daily activities, but you should avoid heavy lifting and sexual intercourse for at least 6 weeks. Dr. Roz will provide clear aftercare guidelines that you must follow accurately to ensure optimal recovery.
