Cancer Facts

Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the U.S. after heart disease. A third of all cancer deaths in the U.S. are linked to diet and lack of physical activity including obesity. It is reported that 1 out of 8 women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime.

The prevalence of processed foods, exposure to radiation, pollution in the water and in the air increases the toxicities we are exposed to. You’ve heard me say this before toxins in our body plays a major role in the onset of disease. When abnormal cells develop in our body, our immune system can quickly kill these cells. A healthy immune system has Natural Killer cells that recognize and kills tumor cells and viruses before they wreak havoc and cause major health problems. We have Natural Killer Cells in us! We want these and need to keep them around.

Keeping your immune system as healthy as possible will help keep toxin levels low. Feeding our body with good nutrients is the power to make this system work. When good nutrition is low our defense cells become weak and we are more susceptible to a suppressed immune system and a lesser response from our innate Natural Killer Cells and cancer cells can then grow.

There are many causes of cancer but nutrition plays an extremely important part in keeping us healthy. Good nutrition requires eating a more plant based diet. Some experts recommend eating more raw foods than not; 80% raw and 20% cooked. That’s a lot of salad! Lightly steamed vegetables are packed with vitamins and minerals that processed foods are deficient in. Juicing is an excellent way to get a lot of raw vegetables in our diet.

Avoiding processed foods like canned foods, foods in plastic containers and microwave popcorn is a good habit. Heating plastic containers that releases BPA’S (bisphenol-A) a chemical that ultimately interrupts the immune system is a bad habit.

Healthy Breast

An area not often associated with good Breast health is our oral hygiene. That’s right ladies, undetected teeth issues can lead to breast cancer and other chronic disease. Gum disease, root canals, mercury fillings and cavitation’s have a strong correlation with breast cancer as hidden toxins/infection hinder our immune health. According to recent studies, persons with bad teeth and gum disease are 2 times more likely to have breast disease compared to a person with healthy teeth and gums.

My Five Steps for Healthy Breast

1. Replace foods for healthier options:
Replace canned soup for homemade vegetable soup
Frozen dinners for fresh salads and vegetables
Refined sugars for Stevia
Sodas for Kombucha

2. Vitamins to Boost Breast Health
Vitamin D3, for optimal level (60-80)
Vitamin C (buffered) Antioxidant
Dim 3 (rids the body of excess estrogen),
Indol 3 Carninol found in broccoli.

3. Dental Exam every 6 months

4. Adequate rest, exercise and stress relief

5. Lymphatic breast message. Lymphatics for the breast are under the arm pit and above the collar bone. The lymphatics have a one -way valve and does not pump on its own. By making movements toward the lymphatics you help move lymphatic juices. Lymph transports cellular debris and toxins from tissue to the lymph nodes.

Steps for Lymphatic Breast Message:

  • Put your hand in your armpit and push inward and upward, go deep into the armpit.
  • Pump upward and release 10-20 times
  • Hold your entire breast with two hands and move it toward the armpit do this 10 times.
  • Holding your breast stable, pump the upper inner quadrant of your breast up toward your neck.

Do this 5 times. You can do the pumping more than the recommended times. On the moves up, use slight pressure and release to allow the breast back. This action mimics the natural movement of the lymph system

Recommended Essential Oil for the Breast is Grapefruit Essential Oil.

Health benefits of grapefruit essential oil makes it ideal to use during the lymphatic breast message. Grapefruit has major antioxidant properties and rich in vitamin C which boost your immune system by fighting against the activity of free radicals. Grapefruit essential oil is most beneficial on the lymphatic system as it cleans and detoxifies.

Bonus: While supplies last during the month of October a free sample of Grapefruit Essential Oil from Doterra when you come into the office.

Mammogram Recommendations

It is recommended that a woman has a mammogram yearly beginning at age 40. Screening begins earlier with a significant family history of Breast Cancer.

New breakthrough that is now FDA approved, the 3D Mammogram.
Often women are called back for additional images of the breast after a standard mammogram. Only to find that their anxiety and additional cost for additional exams turn out to be a false alarm. According to research studies the 3D Mammogram detects 41% more invasive breast cancers and reduce false positives by 40%. This means that 3D mammography is finding more clinically significant breast cancers earlier.

Treat your body like it’s your baby. Would you give your baby bad food that she couldn’t digest? Would you pay attention if your baby wasn’t having regular bowel movements? Would you make sure your baby was clean and comfortable and that she had a good night sleep.

Love yourself first, good nutrition, a good night sleep, regular exercise, low stress, detox and getting regular checkups are part of the formula to live the life you truly love by giving your body what it needs.

Let’s start with good Nutrition. I can’t stress enough the power of clean eating and replenishing essential nutrients. Eating clean mean to consume foods that are not genetically modified (GMO), processed foods or foods loaded with pesticides. Common foods that are genetically modified: Corn, seedless watermelon, zucchini, papayas. GMO’s are toxic to our bodies and reek havoc as the toxins slowly creeps up and cause disease, this is a very controversial subject. Some may have a problem with digesting these foods and develop constipation. Regular bowel movements is going 2 – 3 times per day. If you’re going 2 – 3 times per week it’s a problem. You may say that you have done this your entire life. Well, it’s a chronic problem. The gut is the first line of defense for your immune system.

Health Food Store

FYI, if your stool has a foul odor or you have a bad breath odor you’re not breaking down proteins that you consume and therefore not getting all the nutritional benefits of the foods you consume. Betaine HCL found in your health food store will fix this problem when you take it with meals.

Keeping a healthy gut lining requires eating a clean diet. One of my other favorites ways to promote a healthy gut is taking a probiotic on a regular basis. I will share how replenishing a simple mineral can also help you have regular movements which aid in eliminating waste and a form of detoxing.

A good night sleep is essential. We may not all get 8 hours at night and everyone may not need 8 hours per night to feel refreshed in the morning. And some can’t get 3 consecutive hours per night. While we are at rest our body is going through a process of repair. Subconscious and conscious thinking stops that’s if you don’t go to bed thinking about how horrible your day was and all the things you still need to do, then your first waking thought is thinking of all the things you need to do.

Give yourself a fresh start every morning. One of my favorite things to do when I first wake up in the morning is to say positive affirmations to myself.

The same mineral that helps with keeping your bowels regular also helps with sleep. It is also related to stress.

With stress it’s very challenging to get sleep at all if you are constantly focused on the stressor. An easy way to eliminate this is to think of something that brings pleasure to you. Maybe a recent vacation, your favorite place to visit, your favorite Holiday or your favorite niece. Whatever it takes to erase the thought of the stressor if only for five minutes.

Regular exercise helps by keeping your bones healthy. We often don’t think of our bones until we fracture or break one. Good bone health requires regular weight bearing exercise. This simple mineral also helps with healthy bones and it’s not Calcium.

Calcium is needed for healthy bone. But you need Magnesium to put the calcium into your bones.

Magnesium is the Mineral most Americans are deficient of and it’s needed in over 400 reactions in our body. My favorite way to take in Magnesium is an Epsom salt bath and to drink Natural Calm, a powder form of Magnesium mixed in a cup of warm water makes for a great bedtime drink and a good night sleep.

Bioidentical Hormones made simple

Bio-Identical Hormones are a plant based hormone with a chemical structure like the hormones the body naturally produce. As we age the hormones we produce decrease. This decline and fluctuation can began as early as age 35. The average age for menopause is 51 plus or minus 3 years. When we lack these hormones we feel the affect.
Common symptoms are hot flashes, night sweats, decreased libido, and no energy, can’t sleep, weight gain, fluid retention, foggy memory, bladder leakage, painful intercourse. There are others. These symptoms can get in the way of you living your best life. Middle age does not begin until age 65. An old Chinese philosopher once said that your second life begins at age 65. I want to enjoy these years. It sounds like the best is yet to come.

Common hormone therapy prescribed includes Premarin, an estrogen like product, made from horse urine. The problem with managing menopausal symptoms with this product alone is women don’t want a product made from horse urine and it will not address all of the common menopausal symptoms.

Balancing your hormones with Bio-identical/Natural Estrogen, Progesterone and Testosterone is safer and more complete. Women often avoid Hormone therapy due to fear that they will develop cancer and die. Fact is the most common cause of death for a woman age 50 and above is Heart Disease. I will discuss breast cancer prevention and how a simple vitamin can decrease your chances of developing it by 50% in the October newsletter.

Bio-identical hormones when prescribed and taken correctly, enable you to get a full night sleep, be more energized, have a great sex life, mental clarity, better bladder control, vaginal pleasure, improved metabolism and so much more. Not Death. I encourage you to find out what your hormone levels are, be clear on how you want to feel and begin therapy.

Bio-Identical hormones are best prescribed after testing your hormone levels and determining the right dosage and route for you to take. They are customized just for you. These hormones can be in the form of a cream, pellet injection, troche or capsule. They are compounded just for you based on your levels and prescribed to give you the right balance needed for you to feel your best.

There comes a point in our life when it is time to assume the throne and live your best life. Answer these questions for yourself: What would you do if you awakened everyday ready to start the day? How would it feel if you wanted a more intimate relationship with your significant other? What could you accomplish if hot flashes didn’t hold you back or your leaky bladder?
The Best is yet to come.
